Various Artists ‘Ghaust / Aseethe’ Split-CD (Cactus Records, 2010)
This is a dangerous release for local heavy music fans - released mid 2010, a split CD of Ghaust / Aseethe, a split cd from two bands from different country. Ghaust, like we all know, is a post-metal duo from Jakarta. While Aseethe is a sludge metal trio from Iowa, USA. The label that released this album is cactus Record, a label based in Malaysia.
This split cd containing 3 songs with long duration. First song, "Return Of Fire", come from Ghaust. This Ghaust's new song sounds more complex and dynamic : there's a fast part, heavy part and slow part. The duration is also quite long : 9 minutes. By the way, this song was recorded and mixed by Iyub from Santamonica / Sugarstar. While the second song is Ghaust's old song titled "Akasia", that re-mixed by Morgue Vanguard(Ucok) from Trigger Mortis / Homicide become “Akasia RMX”. Ucok totally rearranged this song into a heavy composition & noisy industrial, a hypnotizing power electronic.
The third composition titled "The Armada" come from Aseethe. Oh no, this song's duration is quite long : about 21 minutes! Long enough to make you sucked into the song! A typical of doom metal songs : slow, dark, heavy and atmospheric. Besides, this so was mixed and mastered by James Plotkin(the legendary producer behind the records of Isis, Sunn O))), Earth, Khanate, and such). SO to listen to this song, you have to spend a special time to contemplate within!
But I will not categorizing Aseethe as a pure doom metal, because their music basically is a dark atmosphered slow post-metal, give you a "doomy" feeling. Different from post metal that Ghaust offered, that tend to be more "light", melodic and melancholic.
By the way, the photography art for this album is pretty cool! A must have release to consume, enough said! - Dede
